Kuala Lumpur has been officially named a UNESCO Creative City of Design for 2025, a recognition announced on World Cities Day by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. This accolade underscores the city’s growing prominence as a hub of innovation, culture and urban creativity. The award reflects a combined effort by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Think City, and more than 200 designers, academics and creatives who collaborated on the bid.

It aligns closely with the Warisan KL initiative – a heritage-led urban regeneration plan that aims to revitalise downtown KL’s historic core through design, public space enhancements and community engagement. This distinction not only highlights our city’s creative credentials but also strengthens our appeal to culturally minded travellers who value design, innovation and authentic local experiences.
